I usually use Xubuntu but I also have Lubuntu on another computer. I've noticed that in Xubuntu 14.04 some pages look ugly. In Xubuntu 13.10 the same page, with the same set of fonts, looks good. I installed the same set of fonts in Lubuntu 14.04 and the page looks good too. What is different with Xubuntu 14.04 that affects the font rendering? May it be some extra font that Xubuntu 14.04 includes?

It is most likely a difference in the window manager (openbox) font settings in Lubuntu, and the font settings in Xubuntu ->Settings manager ->appearance tab.

It may also be the font rendering settings that are different in the two, ie the hinting and sub-pixel-order.
