Ubuntu on Dell Precision M65

I have installed Ubuntu on my Dell M65 Laptop, everything went well the install was successful. The login screen appears, I am successful with the login but it just boots to a desktop screen and nothing else. I cannot see any icons nor the Taskbar. When I boot and run from CD it works fine. Has anyone else experienced a similar issue or am I doing something wrong?

Here are my specs:

Processor: Intel Yonah Core Duo T2400 (1.83GHz/2MB L2 Cache)
OS: Ubuntu 14.04 I also tried 12 and 13
Graphics: NVIDIA Quadro FX 350M
RAM: 4 GB
HDD: 250 GB (military DoD wipe performed prior to install)

Hi Bruce,

I have exactly the same results for my Dell M65. 12.04 LTS works ok.

Looks like a problem in the new version.
