Fresh install of 14.04 desktop was running along just fine until last night. A collection of distro updates were proposed by the built-in updater program. I accepted. When updates were done the GUI was broken: corrupted screen, no mouse... I opened a command window and rebooted. Then the system went into a cyclical reboot. Powered off and restarted: Grub prompt. Threw hands up in the air and went to bed. Restarted this morning: 1st time got a blank screen. Second and third times more interesting: was able to boot and log in, only to stop at a completely blue screen :<{

The desktop is running in there somewhere: after a few minutes the screen blanked. I pressed a key and got a password prompt, but that only restored the blue screen.

Booted USB stick into 14.04 to get the dpkg log: moving to the affected PC to post the packages that were updated...

The H/W setup is pretty vanilla: a system EXT4 partition, a /home EXT4, a swap, and a LVM. There is one qemu-kvm VM installed but it is set not to start at boot.

IMHO 14.04 was not ready for prime time. I saw a number of apport crashes on the way to get here, and some strange behaviors that I can't recall exactly. I'll give it one more try but I need to get this system running properly. Next resort: different distro.

Had the same problem after update (kernel update to 3.13.0-32-generic).
Tried suggestion here: http://askubuntu.com/questions/435623/problem-after-update-blue-screen-with-only-the-mouse-cursor
But with no success.

Could save my system with a backup. This kind of problems won't make new friends to the distro...

I dont know what happens with the next update...
