Not really sure what other information I can add, but that's my problem. I can ctrl + shift + F1 and login like that, but there's just no desktop. It's not blank. It just doesn't exist.
14.04 has been nothing but bad news for me so far. My other installation on a virtual machine resulted in the loss of the network icon that I need for resetting the internet connection whenever pausing the VM. That took a while to fix. Now there's this.
Sorry, just a little annoyed. Anyway, how do I get the desktop working, without resorting to me getting a new installation disk and starting all over again?
