Lubuntu has the Run command in the menu which executes any command as if it were the terminal. I would like to make it search through all installed programs so that the search results would be something like the unity dash would find.

Here's an example to show what I am trying to say.

If you search the word "software" in Unity dash the results would be:

In LXDE, the Run option would just find any commands that begin with "software":

However, I can do the same from the Terminal emulator. Is there a way to make the Run command search through installed programs, like the unity dash does?

I don't think that's possible. Generally, you'll find a lot more possible in heavier desktop environments than is possible in Lubuntu. That's partly by design to keep things light.
