Lenovo G500s laptop, less than a year old. running win 8. I've tried several times to dual boot Ubuntu, and nothing works. I cannot even get ubuntu to appear. I've disabled auto start stuff remarked about on other threads. I am unable to get the boot menu to show anything but EFI choices, and none indicate my flash drive with ubuntu, or when I try to do it with a CD loaded with ubuntu. I've tried looking in BIOS, and Boot Menu, and don't see either the optical drive or the flash drive. I'm really tired of trying multiple downloads, and nothing works. If someone can point me to a way I can dump win 8 to something I can boot to ubuntu only, I'd be happy. I have recovery cd's so I can go back to win 8 if I want to. I had no trouble on a previous laptop (pre-win 8), loading ubuntu 12.04.

I really don't understand how win 8 can be so hard to deal with for Ubuntu/Linus users.

From liveDVD or flash drive installer run this.

Boot Repair -Also handles LVM, GPT, separate /boot and UEFI dual boot.:

Another lenovo solution copy grubx64.efi to bootx64.efi & boot hard drive not anyother entry

Others with Lenovo and vendors usually use same UEFI but with different options for different models.

Lenovo IDEAPAD Y410P - In My BIOS I set Boot Legacy Support But i set Boot UEFI First.
