Ubuntu 14.04 - S/PDIF Not Working

Hey Guys,

As the subject states, I can't seem to get my home theater speakers working in ubuntu. It seems to have found my soundcard, and I can actually see the option under sound settings (and hear the sound). But when I go into chrome or play an MP3, I get nothing.

Any ideas?

You get this working? I have Ubuntu 14.04 and trying to use S/PDIF to my receiver. The S/PDIF audio will play at full volume through my stereo until I change the volume in Ubuntu, at which point the volume throttles WAY back like 90% disappears and I have to turn volume in Ubuntu all the way up to hear anything. If I toggle off S/PDIF and back onto it then it'll be full blast again. Seems like Ubuntu is switching to a different driver once the volume controls are engaged and muffling the sound. I'm perplexed.

Long story short: S/PDIF works, but there's problems
