I recently upgraded xubuntu to 14.04 and my wine/programs sub-menu has gone missing. All menu entries appear correctly in settings manager/main menu and in the new menu editor but they do not show in the actual menu dropdown.

Can someone help me with this?

Thanks...

EDIT: I just discovered that the applications menu displayed with right-click on the desktop is correct but the menu displayed by clicking the upper left corner icon is not - now I'm really confused!

C'mon people! I know there are some who understand the somewhat convoluted xfce menu system - please help me out before I lose my mind :)

Open the whisker menu properties dialog and enable "Show menu hierarchy".

Thanks for responding - whiskermenu appears to be an improvement over the default app.

Open the whisker menu properties dialog and enable "Show menu hierarchy".

I don't suppose you know how to solve this if one uses the applications menu rather than the whisker menu?

(it's through this search that i've found out there are two options, which removes my longstanding confusion about the presence of two menu editors in settings!)

I thought I had the same issue until I realized some of the sub menus aren't in alphabetical order, sometimes new additions are at the end of the submenus. So scroll through the whole menus and you may see the missing items. It does seem a rather difficult menu system to tweak easily.

First, consider replacing MenuLibre with Alacarte. Here are two links that might be useful:
