Upgraded from 13.10 to 14.04 on Asus U46E. Have Altec Lancing USB speakers and HDMI sound. Neither show up in sound settings. Only dummy output. I removed, rebooted, and reinstalled Ubuntu restricted extras. That seemed to fix the problem, but it has come back.
I also found that in user accounts, unlock is grayed out. I am also being asked for my passward to log out. Installing restricted extras seems to fix all of these, but the problem with all of them comes back.
I am brain damaged so I can cut and paste troubleshooting, etc. but I can't just do it on my own. I used to be a tech. So I appreciate your patience. I use Ubuntu because it is so much easier to deal with than Windows.. Thank you.
