View Full Version : [ubuntu] Ubuntu 14.04 installed from scratch boots to console or hangs at purple screen

I really didn't expect too much trouble installing 14.04 since the Live USB thumb-drive booted without any issues. That is after I enabled the IOMMU in the BIOS of this Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P motherboard with AMD64 processor, with a Gigabyte (nvidia) GEFORCE GT640 graphics adapter. See this thread for that issue:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2214959. Unfortunately, now, after a clean install of 14.04 from scratch, the boot-up fails two different ways. Sometimes it boots to a Command line console, but won't connect to the internet and won't allow me to startx. Other times it hangs at the purple screen with the dots on it. I suspect another hardware configuration issue, but not sure what. Anybody have any ideas?
