as we always do i've customize my ubuntu themes and icons but after rebooting the pc i find my themes and icons change to default . i tried to solve it by starting recover mode to fix the damaged package then i find my themes back and my icons but after rebooting the problem appears again what should i do and I think there is problem with gnome and unity that's how my desktop appears http://s16.postimg.org/yguwh0fdx/Screenshot_from_2014_04_20_09_13_50.png and that's how my normal desktop appears http://s16.postimg.org/4xverr5d1/Screenshot_from_2014_04_20_09_18_05.png I'm using Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 32-Bit

I have a related issue myself. The theme looks old school like your screen shot. However if I reboot, and wait a few minutes before logging in, everything looks great. Interested to hear your results.

It would "appear" that gtk may be broken. I'm not entirely sure though. Would be interested to see if it happens when you install ubuntu again, maybe just try to install it on a portable hard drive. I'm just curious because it does appear that something has perhaps gone wrong in installation. Maybe even by reinstalling the gnome packages.

I updated ubuntu 13.10 to 14.04 and have a similar problem. I read this thread, loged-in about ten minutes after reboot, and got a intended theme.
I worked but need some patience.
Is there any quicker solutions?
