Greetings all, I have just upgraded to Ubuntu 14.04 and it works well with one small niggle.

There is no power off button, internet connection icon, time, or date in the top bar. Is there anything I can do about this?

Ah, I seem to have fixed it... Not quite sure how though.

the missing time and date applet is an old problem that appears together with 13.04....i guess.
i also have encountered once in my new install of 14.04.
so, as i remember from what i have once red, i have changed the update server according with time and date language.
first time, being in romania, server and time and date has been set to romanian. next, i changed the time and date setting to english-US, as i use english language. at next reboot the time and date was missing. so, i have also changed the server from romania to united states and as far, things seems to be cool.
i will keep you informed about this bug in the next weeks.
