View Full Version : [kde] Why do upgrades always uninstall kdm?

I use KDE with a custom selection of packages, and without Unity. So far I have upgraded between several Ubuntu versions. The last 3 upgrades all uninstalled kdm. I'm absolutely certain that kdm was manually installed before today's 14.04 upgrade. I upgraded via "sudo do-release-upgrade" from the text console, and when the changes were calculated, I was told kdm will be removed. I was also told a bunch of other automatically installed packages would be removed, but kdm was the only package in a different list before that, showing manually installed packages.

This is trivial to fix afterwards: I just need to log in on the text console after the upgrade and install kdm. I'm just wondering why a manually installed package is being removed like this. I don't suppose there's some conflict, because I can install it after the upgrade without any problems.

That problem never arises if you use Kubuntu.
