I just installed 13.10 desktop on my Thinkpad w530. The install ran fine, with no reported errors. When I restarted I got a black screen. I am not sure if Linux started properly and cannot display, or if the initialization did not complete.

I can start up Live Linux from the USB stick.

Anyone know how to fix this?

How can I troubleshoot?

I have not found anything that directly addresses this in the forums. I did see a suggestion to add "nomodeset" to a line in grub and tried that to no effect.

Just to confirm it is installed correctly.
Post the link to the Create BootInfo report. Is part of Boot-Repair:

What video chip do you have? If Intel different boot parameters than nomodeset may be required.

At grub menu you can use e for edit, scroll to linux line and replace quiet splash with nomodeset.

This is resolved by setting nomodeset on the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT line of /etc/default/grub, then running sudo update-grub.

All seems well now.
