This is a good way to plant advertising directly into the brain.

This is either an early April Fool's joke, or it's the worst news ever. If you're into Oculus Rift, I can't think of anything that would be worse news. They've already canceled the OR version of Minecraft.

i am sure they already have plans on where to put advertisments into "free to play" games.

Looks like a good deal for Facebook, at least better than buying WhatsApp?

It's going to be an even lamer version of Second Life, where you just walk around and tell all your friends what's going on in real life.

Ugh, there goes any chance of having a decent VR system on the market in the next 10 years...

This I could compare to IF Ubuntu sold out to Microsoft.
1) Lose respect for wonderful company (in this case Ubuntu)
2) Dislike who they sold it to due to their current marketings/actions/etc. (Microsoft)
3) Lose interest in the project all together (XYZ)

Hence:
1 - Oculus Rift company
2 - Facebook
3 - Oculus Rift device

I was excited about it but now I could care less. At least Google Glasses is still looking neat =)
