Ubuntu compatibility with Lenovo ideapad S415 Touch?

I just want to get a working unix environment on here, actually, and Ubuntu was the first place I thought to start. Does anybody have any suggestions as to a version I could use? Thanks.

I already tried version 12.10 but it didnt install correctly. There was a monitor blackout after the install screen. I was told to try nomodeset but I didn't know how.
