I want to know if there is a way to exit the boot process to enter the shell to fix xorg (neither keyboard nor mouse work in the Ubuntu desktop environment).

My problem is:
1. I have ChrUbuntu installed and thus no Grub menu, holding shift does not work
2. Ctrl-Alt + F1, or other function keys do not work

I was able to enter the shell when I hit Ctrl+Alt+F1 after I had pressed the power off button during the boot sequence. However, the computer shut down quickly.

Maybe the forum users will need more hardware info? You don't say how you installed chrubuntu-I did check out a guide here (http://chrubuntu.blogspot.com/2013/02/get-ubuntu-running-on-your-chromebook.html) but there isn't much on bootloader troubleshooting.
