Hello Team

I am a complete N00B and think its a new and exciting venture.

I have the above notebook as my only PC and I installed 64 bit of the latest version yesterday. I am sure my notbook has 2mb RAM

Which is the best to use? What would the real difference be between 32 and 64 bit "flavour"

I used ******* 7 ultimate 64bit and it worked well.

I presume you mean 2GB ram, not 2MB, but that aside I think with 2GB you may do just as well with a 32 bit system as a 64 bit version, and I am not sure if you will see any real speed advantage from 64 bit.

This is just my personal opinion and others may disagree and say that if your hardware can run 64 bit you should always use it. However, the biggest advantage of 64 bit in my opinion is its ability to use over 4GB of ram without the need for a pae kernel workaround.

If you can upgrate the ram to 4GB or more definitely go with 64 bit.

NO! THe biggest advantage of using 64bit OS is to use the full power of the 64bit CPU. it has nothing to do with ram and 32bit OS can run up to 64 GB ram.

all the user has to ask themselves is if the CPU is 32 or 64 bit. besides if you have 32bit installed to install the 64 bit you need to reinstall the whole thing.

ofcousre the issue with having just 1GB ram is that 64 bit needs a bit more ram.

i have 2 GB HP netbook with option of upgrading ram to 8GB. the CPU is 64 bit, available ram is 1.5 GB. i installed 64bit OS. I have a arround 500 MB taken on boot (with 32bit it would be arround 280MB). Computer still uses the full power of the dual core 64bit CPU.

OK, thanks for that clarification.

Any HP ProBook series has 4GB DDR3 RAM as minimum. Considering also the CPU -> Definitely 64-bit versions (always).
