OS: Ubuntu 13.10
IDE: Code::Blocks 12.11 with wxSmith

I have just undertaken to study GUI programming using the IDE indicated above but have encountered what is known as "Ubuntu bug 662077."
This is the failure of apps built with wxSmith to show the main menu bar and apparentlystarted occurring with the advent of Unity. The only advice
I've found on this forum is to uninstall "appmenu-gtk" but this hasn't helped. Anyone know of a fix for this?

There is a lot of comment with some workarounds on that bug here:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wxwidgets2.8/+bug/662077

Or you might want to install a later/newer version of Code::Blocks. I do not know what version is in the Ubuntu 13.10 software centre but the Trusty Tahr software centre has code::blocks 13.12

I have recently installed Ubuntu 14.04 and Code::Blocks 13.12 but the problem remains. I'm not experienced enough to know how to approach a solution. I don't encounter this using Code::Blocks with Windows but need to get going under Ubuntu. Would be grateful for any assistance!
