View Full Version : [ubuntu] .desktop files or alternatives...

Running saucy on a 46" touch screen (I'll post pics soon!). Using .desktop files to put url shortcuts on the Unity launcher. These .desktop files launch the url in chromium-browser. Here is what I want to solve: Since the .desktop file launches a link in the browser, it launches a new tab everytime the icon is touched. What I would like to see happen is that the existing tab for that specific url, if already open, will just bring up that tab. If it is not open yet, open the link in a new tab in the browser already open, or launch the browser and open the link if the browser is not open.

I am not married to .desktop files or chromium-browser as the only way to do this. Any suggestions or ideas are appreciated. I'm leaning toward a script of some sort, but will see what you guys suggest first.
