View Full Version : [SOLVED] Blank screen after login - startx fails with "No protocol specified"

I am able to get to the login screen and after entering my password and hitting enter the screen goes blank. When I ctrl-alt-f1 into a shell and run 'startx' I get a bunch of stuff being loaded and then this is where it get's stuck:

I've been on 13.10 for a while without any issues. This occurred after restoring my computer from a suspended state. Possibly a driver upgrade may have caused it?

So it turns out this was all a result of me messing around with my /etc/environment variables and adding $HOME. It completely escaped my mind that I had made this change
