Hello all,

I'm trying to install lubuntu 13.10 on an old PC with SiS 630 and I can't even load the liveCD. Gives me a message about Sis630 (module not loaded or something like that) and doesn't proceed.

The PC is working. It has a Mint 12.10 lxde distribuition, but I was wanting to try with lubuntu.

Is there any way arround this?

BTW, sorry for any english errors as I am a portuguese speaker

Hi, welcome to the fora.
SIS has always been a problem and it's getting worse in 13.10. I suggest something based on 12.04, for example Bodhi Linux (http://www.bodhilinux.com/).

Thank you. I might try, but don't think it will be much different from Mint 12 lxde that is currently used...

Try Kubuntu 13.10 instead

Why do you expect that to work better with SIS?

I have an old laptop pIII with sis 630/730 graphics card, 512 Mb RAM, and do not recommend to install anything above 12.04, it doesn't work.

I tried to upgrade from lubuntu 12.04 (wich works ok with laptop but is now half un-supported) to 12.10 and all I had was a black screen. Some people addres to add lxle ppa, please see http://mylinuxexplore.blogspot.com.es/2014/02/lxle-12044-review-much-more-than.html, to lubuntu 12.04 in order to have a LTS release, but I haven't tried yet.

Thank you all! I'll try bodhi and lxle altough I don't think it will much of an improvement from Mint 12 lxde.

Maybe as a replacement to some old winxp machines used mainly for school searches and work (I teach computers to 1st to 4th graders with mint installed pc's)

Sounds like a good plan.
If you (or someone who finds the thread) want to experiment with 13.10 here are some guidelines:
