View Full Version : [lubuntu] Abrupt shading transitions on new Lubuntu 13.10 install

New install of Lubuntu 13.10 32bit on Dell Dimension 2400 with Intel Pentium 4 @ 2.8 Ghz, 2GB of DDR-333 ram (PC-2700). Everything works fine, but the image shading is not smooth, but is abrupt and badly pixelated. I've tried to update the color depth to 32 bit via a small script file "xorg.conf" in /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d that some posts mention, but this has not worked. Any ideas?

I had the exact same issue and fixed it by doing this:

Thanks. That has really helped, but I still see small but visible shading "gradients." It's still not as "smooth" as my other computer, a Dell E1505 laptop with Intel Core (1st gen) T2300 with 2 gb ram (forgot speed) and Intel 950 chipset. However, I think this just might be a limitation of the hardware itself. The Dell destkop computer is quite old (2004), and I've barely used it for approximately 3 years. Maybe it's more antiquated than I really thought! In any case, Lubuntu has transformed my computers from painfully slow old Windows XP computers to usable devices for my kiddos, all for free!
