What Ubuntu release are you running, 32 bit or 64 bit, have you changed anything recently? What video card/driver are you running. If you start evolution from a terminal, do you get any errors output? I'm having trouble with evoution on a 64 bit 13.10 Ubuntu, crashing after getting mail, with the Nvidia 304.108 (and 88) driver showing up in the dump. May be the same issue, but you didn't include enough details to tell.
