Good day,

I have been tremendously frustrated by my mouse freezing randomly, this is often followed by a total system freeze.

It is a usb microsoft mouse. When the mouse freezes, the LED is still lit. If I unplug and replug in the mouse then it is completely dead (no light).
This freeze occurs completely randomly but most often shortly after the desktop loads at startup.
The freeze always forces me to cut power from my machine and reboot. Sometimes I have to reboot several times before the freezing stops.
There are occasions when I can use the computer for almost a whole day without an issue.

I was initially using 12.04 when this started happening, I subsequently upgraded to 13.10 in the hope that it would solve the problem.

This is an especially annoying problem as the result is I often lose work.

My computer specifications:
4GB RAM
AMD Phenom 9500 Quad-core 2.2GHz
64-bit OS
Graphics: Gallium 0.4 on NVAA (on board graphics I presume?)

I'd really appreciate anyone who can help.

I got a chance to run lsusb when the mouse froze and the keyboard was still working.
The mouse still appears to be detected.
