What country has the highest number of linux users?

Either USA or Mainland China

It could be USA because US and Europe are the 2 main places where Linux is used. But Europe is split into many different countries so we'd come out ontop.

Could be China because even if they had the same (or even less) percentage of their population useing Linux they'd have more people.

I doubt it's fully correct, but it gets you an idea.

According to this the United States Of America has 24376 users.

Makes you sick wondering how many Windows users there might be. :-(

Don't panic.. I believe there are many linux users who don't know of the counter, so haven't signed up.

Oh, what a relief - for a moment there I thought Microsoft had a desktop in each home and a stranglehold on the world economy.

So glad to know it ain't so...

i guess that would depend on whether you consider the number, or the percentage of computer users to be more valid. I don't know how you would find the latter though.

it'd be nice if the other language forums came together to share stats.

In fact it'd be cool to see some level of integration amongst the international ubuntu user community

You must be living in a reality distortion field, my young friend. Take the red pill, and I'll show you how far Linux can go!

also, can someone tell me what the heck happened in early 2002 (see attachment) ??

What's that graph supposed to be? Ubuntu users? It wasn't around in 1994!

oh, but it (linux) was... (http://counter.li.org/news/ten-years-counting.php)

it's a shame though, as it's totally arbitrary and hardly indicative of linux usage around the world these days.

Of course it cannot be taken seriously.

1. There is no validation, so I could register a dozen or so machines, even if I have no Linux.

2. Not every Linux user knows about it.

Take it with a pinch or two or a sack of salt. Like distrowatch.org ratings
