Seth Nickell posted some screenshots (http://www.gnome.org/~seth/blog//xshots) and videos showing the experimental Luminocity window manager & Cairo which enable a XOrg-based desktop to get accelerated GL eye candy graphics. Update: more here (http://www.gnome.org/~seth/blog/relations).

Wonder when will it be officially released.

Wonder when / which release of Ubuntu will support it.

It won't be released, it's a testbed app.

Some of these features should be available in Metacity soonish.

That's slick. Its a lot like Looking Glass in theory, which will be released eventually.

I can't wait till lookingglass gets released for Linux. I'm going to put it on Ubuntu when I get a computer to install it on.

Saw this on /. the other day and boy, do I really want this in Ubuntu! Holy crap, we should make a bounty to get it put in or something... I don't have lots of cash right now though, but man, do I ever want this eye candy. I am sure that I could get some of my friends to use Linux just based on having those wobbly windows alone! Yes, they are shallow like that.

TravisNewman

Wow that is shallow ;) but it IS a good reason to want to play with something, and if that gets them hooked, then who's to stop them?

Looking glass has a big problem for us... although the code itself is GPL, it's based on Java and requires Sun's Java to run... so it's fallen into the Java trap and depends on non-free runtimes.

True. Sun is (supposedly) planning on releasing Java GPLed soon though aren't they?

I don't think they've decided that yet. There has been talks of it for months now, but never any concrete conclusion.

Well I prefer it didn't, but I'd rather have wooble with JAVA rather than no wobble at all.

I remember DosShell. That was pretty nice looking compared to this.

Your sending me back to my Tandy days. It wasn't that bad at all, I've loved computers ever since.
