I just bought a Dell Inspiron Mini 9 Netbook with Ubuntu 12.04 on it. The seller lost the password, so I can't become superuser to do things like install updates. Otherwise, everything seems to be OK, except that sometimes the machine won't shut off on my command to do so from Ubuntu, and I have to hold down the START BUTTON
1- Is there any way to recover the password?
2- If I can't recover the password, can I simply reinstall a brand new copy of 12.04?
2a- I hope I won't need to create a flash drive to reinstall, because I don't know what keys I have to press to get the machine to install from a flash drive.
2b- Will I have problems with drivers and such if I wipe everything out and start from SCRATCH
