I have Ubuntu 12.04 and a Radeon 5700 series graphics card. I wanted to update the drivers so I downloaded them from Amd site. Then I do a forced install with the .run file to write over the old drivers (I know it was a bad idea).

Now when I reboot the graphic interface for Ubuntu don't start, I get some text and then I log in to the shell only.

Since I have a Win partition on the same HD I have a boot menu where I also can choose to boot old versions of linux, luckily I have booted a version before 12.04 that I had previously.

But how to get the drivers fixed for the other version? I have internet access in the shell.
