Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Mate 1.6.0 Launcher and Panel

I have Ubuntu 12.04 on MATE desktop 1.6.0.

I can easily right click on desktop and create a launcher. HOWEVER, When I drag and drop the created launcher into the panel it creates two icons in the panel instantly.

I have attached a screenshot of the issue. In this example, I created a "Trello" launcher and then drag and drop it into the panel. As can be seen two panel icons are created.

Additionally, when the launcher is deleted from the desktop and directed to trash, each time I reboot the PC the panel icons disappear.

The result I'm looking for is to have no launcher on the desktop and one trello icon in the panel.

Can anyone help me trouble shoot the issue I explained above to achieve the result I seek?

I used MATE 1.6 only briefly, but I recall using click-and-drag on the little icon in the menu (did not create an icon on the desktop) to get it onto the panel, and it worked.

I went to panel and right clicked the problem icon to open "Launcher Properties". I noticed that "comment" was left blank. I therefore added a comment.

When PC rebooted the icon did not disappear this time....
