So there is a new Powerpoint virus that could allow hackers to exploit your system if you open up the file from an email. The article is here:

How will this affect people who open PP files with OpenOffice.org in Linux?

if its just ppt files, and openoffice Impress is the only tool to view the the powepoint files then the virus is unlikely to affect ubuntu..

however if its ms office with wine.. to play powerpoint files then,there might be a possibility to that this will infect your system.

So since I'm running OpenOffice on a Windows machine I could be at risk because OOo reads MS Office Powerpoint files?

So are you saying that because OpenOffice has better security features that this virus isn't able to exploit Impress like it does Powerpoint?

This is a PowerPoint flaw, OO.o has not got the same flaw AFIAK.
