The Ubuntu 12.04 Desktop has a very well done caricature of the Precise Pangolin. May I use it as my avatar/photo on my profile, or is that copyright/trademark infringement?

EDIT: I Googled this, and I got nothing specific. Can I use the pangolin if I put "(TM)" or it or can it be used within the Ubuntu Community gratis?

EDIT2: As you can see above^^, I have used it with a TradeMark designation (all of this was done with the program Pinta). No posts in over 7 hours, I got impatient. Tell me if this is not kosher, and I will remove it.

You are free to use Pangolin or any other image, you are in a free software and system community , only you want know is if you use any source designed by other you can mentionate the author, be free.

I think the pangolin avatar is certainly within the limits of fair use. If anything I would guess Canonical is only happy that people are embracing their stuff.

Enjoy.

By the way, the added TM might do more harm than good. Now it looks like you are claiming it's your trademark (just my opinion, I'm not a lawyer).
