Has grub legacy been removed from the new versions of ubuntu (14.04) ? Its really important for me as grub [non-legacy] /grub2 just trashes my laptop. I can do this with an

update-manager -d

command. Does any one know how to boot a partition on a lapto without grub? I am currently using ubuntu 12.04LTS.

Do not know for sure about 14.04 and grub legacy.

But what issue does grub2 give you?
I would think if system works with 12.04, you should be able to install grub2.
You have to have grub to boot Ubuntu, although with very new UEFI systems there are other ways.
Or possibly the very old lilo system? or Syslinux like the live flash drive installer?
