my computer icon in ubuntu

hey i used ubuntu 12 and it used to have some options in the top panel on the left that included connect to a server and computer option which showed all the mounted drives
can in any way i can restore those options in top panel or get a mycomputer icon on desktop which will show me all the mounter drives in a window.

The Gnome Tweak Tool/ Advanced Settings has options to place various items on the desktop.

i have unity and gnome tweak tool does not have the option to add my computer icon

I run Unity also and have those options on 12.04 and 13.10 .
