Hi all.

I'm having issues with my onboard graphics under Mint 13 Cinnamon.
When Mint starts is complains that Cinnamon has crashed and would I like to restart it.

My motherboard is a Gigabyte H87M-HD3, with Intel graphics. I have found various windows that should have a clear background in fact do not. (Cairo dock covers more of the screen than is should etc.) I have put this down to the incorrect graphics drivers. Is there a known good source for drivers for the graphics on this board ? Are the drivers the issue ?

I know I'm using Mint and not Unubtu but I beleive they are very closely linked and would assume what works for one would work for the other and Ubuntu would have a much larger user base and so more likley to have solved the problem.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Rob.

If you're only having issues under Cinnamon, then use the Mint forums..

Unfortunatley it is with everything. Not just Cinnamon which makes me think its a driver issuse.

Moved to other OS since Mint.

I have seen some UEFI/BIOS settings for older Gigabyte boards. Often some setting in UEFI that does not seem related makes a difference.

Intel drivers often need boot parameters and have many updates recently. Do not know about Mint but newest Ubuntu works better. It often is not just video driver, but kernel & all supporting software.

Hi Fred.

Thanks for your post. I will have a read up on those links you posted and see if I can figure out whats going on.
Currently I can't log in to Cinnamon. I have to use XFCE which is also affected but will log me in and run even if I get odd video "effects" here and there.

I will try and figure it out and get back to you here and update the thread.

Thanks

Rob
