My Toshiba Laptop with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS OS seems to not allow me to change my screen res. I will change it in the settings, but then I get kicked to the login screen, and upon logging back in, the screen resoultion is the same as last time.

I have read that I may want to try some xrandr commands, but these havent worked to any avail to set a new resolution. When I just run the xrandr command I get:

sheridan@Sheridan-Toshiba:~$ xrandr

OS: Linux Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64-bit

I would like to get down to a lower resoultion, as I belive this is the only way to run World of Warcraft, as it is doing the same thing of kicking me to login screen when launched.

Any help is appreciated.

Did you install the nvidia drivers, and related nvidia-settings package?

If so, open the settings program, it should be called nvidia xserver setting, then set the resolution and then go to the section that says save configuration.
use the default save settings(this will need your password because it will overwrite the existing configuration file.
then close the program and try logging out and back in.
