I found an older version for ubuntu, which I need to install but don't know how.
The tar.xz file was unzipped into this file named " vlc-2.0.8 ". What to do with it?
Can you help me?
Thank you!

Isn't the 2.0.8 version the one available for all versions of Ubuntu but the development release(14.04)?

Well 13.10 is saucy, so it's version is 2.0.8.1.
It's in the Ubuntu Software center.

+1. Software Centre>search for VLC>Install. Done. ;)

Always try the repos (SCentre or Synaptics) first. Packages from there will be updated along with the rest of the system.

I can't find the version 2.0.8.1. in the Ubuntu Software center, it only displays the version vlc 2.1.2-2ed10vi0~saucy :/

That is the version also used in 14.04 and the latest. It is giving you issues?

You should stick with the latest version in the repos supported by your release if it is not. ;)

Well yes it is. So it's not uncomplicated, to install this particular file?

Software Centre>VLC>Mark for uninstall. Done.

You might be better attempting to fix the problems as there is no guarantee an older version is not going to have the same (or others, or worse) issues.

Any of the newer versions doesn't support the vlsub extension.

See here:

Last paragraph. Apparently the latest version already has, or will have shortly, VLsub 0.9.

At the 'Subtitle' tab I have 'Add subtitle file' or 'Subtrack'. Using 2.1.2 in 14.04 LTS.
