View Full Version : [ubuntu] 12.04 Server install stops (purple screen) after setting up archive

Hi,

I try to install Ubuntu Server 12.04 LTS on a old box. See hardware summery log. The installer stops after selecting the apt-mirror. I've tried several options expertmode, nomodset, different mirrors - always with the same result. The syslog is attached. I don't get what's going wrong from the log and certainly not the purple screen. I can change terminal (alt+F1, F2, F3 and F4).

The network is in place. I install from a USB-disc and tried different discs.

What are my options? I have difficulties accepting the install to fail!?

Regards Jakob

The PDF files are difficult to read. Please run

sudo lshw -sanitize > lshw.txt
and post lshw.txt in CODE tags.

Hmmmm... the system only have busybox at this point so sudo and lshw is unknown!? The terminal on alt+F2 and so on are quite limited. This is the hardware summary from the build in webserver:

You have the

Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 65x/M650/740 PCI/AGP VGA Display Adapter [1039:6325]
graphics card, which is often difficult to deal with. There are plenty of threads regarding SIS problems here.

As a first step, how does a minimal install (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/MinimalCD) work?

I've tried the minimal install from the same iso. It works the same. Will try to download the mini.iso
