bitcoind JSON RPC ubuntu 13.01 issue

Hello,

If you are first setting up bitcoind and attempting to interface with the JSON-RPC api, I just noticed that in 13.10 (both desktop and server) it isn't communicating. At first I thought it was an issue with my firewall / security group but I am able to grab data in 12.10 but not 13.10. I don't know if anyone has any solutions, I do apologies for not posting this to the bitcoin.org wiki but my account over there isn't verified to edit.

I hope others will find this and a solution will come in time. :D

I'm having exactly the same issue in my Kubuntu 13.10. I almost went crazy trying to figure out what was wrong with my configuration (and to add difficulties I am trying to mine memorycoins, which have very little documentation). What a relief to see that this is an issue.
