Hi,
I've encountered this problem where my wallpaper will not display when in the activities screen of Gnome 3.10 shell. I can get the wallpaper to display if I toggle the setting "Have file manager handle the desktop", that is it can be either set to on or off, as long as it is not the setting that I started with. This solution lasts only until I restart my computer, when the problem occurs again, and I must toggle the setting. My screen looks like the following:
http://img.netupd8.com/gnome-classic_5.png
I'm running Ubuntu Gnome 13.10.
The problem appeared the begin when I tried installing custom gnome shell themes through gnome-tweak-tool. I uninstalled these themes, but the problem persisted.
Thanks for your time!
