The 12.04.3 install disc is pretty much broken for anyone who has to do a non-EFI install, so I'm trying to find the most recent version that has never heard of EFI, or at least is switch-selectable, and see if that will install.

I think the 11.10 was the first with UEFI, and 12.04.2 UEFI with secure boot.

You can try any of the 32 bit versions as no 32 bit version has UEFI support.
Although I just saw a new Intel computer with 32 bit UEFI and no CSM mode. Essentially Windows only.

If you want to experiment just remove efi partition from the flash drive. Without efi partition I do not think it will do anything, and then may boot in BIOS mode?

Look at the 12.04 iso from April 2012. You can then update after install to get current. Obtainable here:

I get my iso's here: http://releases.ubuntu.com/. I've never had a problem with non-EFI installs.

I have a Bios based non UEFI computer with Win 7 and I have been dual booting since 2010 . I haven't noticed anything unusual about installing Ubuntu since UEFI.
The 12.04.3 install disc is pretty much broken for anyone who has to do a non-EFI instal. can you describe this in a bit more detail ?
