Are you looking for a *nix shell account with some web space? Check out http://freeshell.org/ . It is multiple machines mostly NetBSD, but if you know your way around Linux shell you should be able to find your way around there. It is free, but for a one time $36 donation (via PayPal) you get more webspace. Your webspace is symlinked to "html" in your home dir, and "mkhomepg -p" sets proper permissions on anything you put there which you can access as "your_username.freeshell.org" from a web browser. I think their minecraft server runs Ubuntu, not that you can get to that other than through the game after you whitelist yourself.

It was originally sdf.lonestar.org, but moved to Washington state some years ago.
