I'm using a Piranha theme on a Xubuntu 12.04.3 system, and when I push the 'hide window' button top right, the window goes away. Should actually show a small icon in the top panel. This is a problem just for my user-id, and occurs for other themes too.

I tried ' rm -rf .cache.sessions' .. and that didn't fix it. Any other suggestions?

Actually .. I found the fix yesterday .. you need to add a "Window Buttons" item to the panel. And I've just noticed someone else recommended doing exactly that; thanks for your help :)

Hello and Welcome

See if the window buttons applet is installed by right clicking the panel and navigating to panel > panel preferences > items. To add items right click the panel and navigate to panel > add new items. If the window menu is installed instead of buttons a small triangle will appear in the panel with a drop-down menu and display open applications and the workspace they are on. I am using XFCE and not Xubuntu so it may differ.
