I have done a fresh install of 13.10 and installed the nvidia drivers. When I try to save the settings from nvidia-settings, there is no xorg.conf file to save to. I have tried everything to generate one. X -configure, Xorg -configure. re-installing nvidia drivers. Nothing will get the conf to generate.

Open a terminal and execute this: "sudo nvidia-xconfig". The xorg.conf file will be created. If one already exists, it will be backed up.
I've found that in an annoying number of cases, the Nvidia installer fails to run nvidia-xconfig.

this maybe the problem I was having. What are the symptoms of not having a xorg.conf ?
