My Lady's sister has somehow crunched her laptop...a hp pavillion dm1. I have tried to re-install windows a few times but am thwarted by the keyboard and touch pad failing to work in any way...other than in bios. Indeed, the keys work fine and dandy in bios...at least the function keys and arrows.

I thought...try ubuntu. It wants to run and install perfectly, from the live usb, but this problem remains with the keys and touchpad. If I plug in a usb mouse that works fine. But then I will reach a stage where I need keys!

is this surely a hardware issue?? If so, why do the arrow keys (at least) still work in bios///??? Ans the escape key also work during boot??

Any advice??
