Hi, I am trying to install Xubuntu 12.04.3 on a Dell Latitude D600 laptop but not having much luck. I've installed the .iso file to a USB stick with UNebootin but when I boot from the USB stick and select the Default boot option nothing happens except a blinking cursor at the bottom of the screen. Can anyone help?
(the DVD drive on the laptop is broken hence the use of a USB drive)

At the first screen you see at booting the USB hit F6 to get to the boot options and try them one by one, starting with nomodeset.

Thanks but unfortunately that doesn't work. Pressing F6 resets the countown in UNebootin's menu but nothing else.

Unetbootin had a peculiar issue with default menu selection -- that may still be the case. Try selecting the 'try without installing' menu selection. There'll likely be an install icon on the desktop if that's what you wish to do.

Thanks Kurt. I couldn't get anywhere with UNebootin so tried Universal USB Installer instead but that didn't work either.
I borrowed a DVD ROM drive from another laptop and booted from a CD which worked fine.
