First, Ubuntu 13.10 has now been released. It is better to install the released version. Second, the information "its something to do with updates" is no help to us. It leaves us just as much at a loss as it does you.

You need to explain fully what is happening from the moment you select Ubuntu 13.10 from the boot menu. If 13.10 is OK until you update it, then it most surely boots. Would you not agree? So, where is the problem? With booting after updating from the Alpha version to the released version? That is a lot of code to be changed. Or is the issue with updating an already running 13.10? Do you see error messages?

yes I know I was a little vague when I wrote that last night, one of the problems is there are some old files acording to the error I get but also it has shot my internet connection it wont connect its a wired connection so I cant send error report I will reinstall it and see what happens would I be better to download current daily build instead of updating the alpha release
I went ahead and downloaded 13.10 daily build ans I also removed opensuse 12.3 as it was saying on the opensuse boot menu fedora was mac osx it had 2 entries macosx 32 bit and mac osx 64 bit now everything is normal.I think alpha had a little bug of somekind when updating in uefi mode
