monitor sleep time

after upgradeing to ubuntu 13.10 using gnome my monitor no longer sleeps.
I have tried brightness and lock but that does not work.

it will work if I switch to gnome flash back or other options.

does anyone have any ideas?

well here is an update.
if I run gnome-screensaver in a terminal it will work.
why is it not starting automaticly?

well if someone has any ideas I would appriciate it.

I put the "gnome-screensaver" command in startup applications and it is working.
it there a better way to make this work as intended?

I am not sure where it is supposed to be launched from.
