I downloaded an update to 12.06 LTS about ten days ago. Now when I switch on I get an error message error cannot read file. If I switch off and switch back on again and choose the boot option Install a previous version and choose the last one which ends in .52 Everything works OK the one that doesn't work I think ends in .54. I have obviously got a corrupted boot file somewhere but have no idea where or how to fix it

Run from terminal

sudo update-grub

Then do a reboot/restart(pick the term you like)
and see if that helps., and try the new kernel 3.2.0-54-generic again.

I too, wonder about 12.06.
We know you mean 12.04(.1,.2,.3)

update grub didn't work. I think I have to create a boot partition but don't know how to do it
