Flickering cursor after upgrade to 13.10

After upgrading to ubuntu 13.10 from 13.04, the cursor keeps constantly flickering. It was fine before. It's still usable but a little irritating. This is on an Asus K53SV laptop. Anyone else had the same problem? How can I go about fixing it?

Solved. Ubuntu was detecting a phantom external monitor. Disabling it solved the problem.
